Happy birthday to French sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye! Barye’s bronzes and large statues of horses, bulls, tigers, and mythological creatures made him the most famous animalier (an artist who specializes in realistic portrayal of animals) of his day. In addition to his sculptures, Barye created oil paintings of animal subjects, including “Tiger at Rest.” Wonder if it was inspired by William Blake’s famous poem?
