The Battle of Bunker Hill took place today on June 17, 1775 on the north side of Boston Harbor. Although the battle was a British victory, they suffered heavy heavy casualties; moreover, the battle demonstrated that America’s colonists were willing and able to stand up to British troops. Winslow Homer’s depiction of the battle is the 17th image in our “100 Days of Homer” series.
